The IRGC claimed the strikes destroyed 20 hangars and killed dozens of American troops. NASA satellite fire detection data showed hotspots inside the base at a barracks and accommodation area and a warehouse complex following the strikes. CENTCOM confirmed two US service members were killed. The New York Times separately reported that the Pentagon was withholding full casualty figures for operational reasons.
What the IRGC Said
In a significant and unusually specific public statement, the IRGC thanked Jordan’s population and military for what it described as “sincere cooperation and precise information” that enabled the accurate targeting of US forces.
The IRGC has conducted strikes against US positions across the region before, but this marks the first time it has publicly named a host nation as an intelligence source for such an operation.
By doing so openly, Tehran was not simply claiming military success. It was making a deliberate political statement, one designed to drive a wedge between Washington and Amman, and to signal that Iran has eyes inside allied territory.
What the Strikes Actually Hit
Satellite fire data from NASA FIRMS and VIIRS reveals the strikes were not aimed at runways, aircraft, or hard military infrastructure. The two confirmed hotspots inside Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base were located within a barracks and personnel accommodation area and a warehouse complex used by US forces.
Iran has shown a pattern across multiple strikes of deliberately targeting places where troops eat, sleep, and spend off-duty time, gyms, food halls, and living quarters. Hitting these locations with ballistic missiles requires precise, human-sourced intelligence about where personnel are located at specific times, well beyond what satellite imagery alone could provide.
What This Means?
The IRGC’s public attribution of Jordanian intelligence cooperation, whether true or a deliberate information operation, puts Amman in an extraordinarily difficult position. Jordan is a longstanding US ally and hosts American forces specifically to support regional security operations.
If the claim holds any truth, it points to a serious penetration of either Jordanian military or civilian intelligence channels by Iranian networks. If it is fabricated, Tehran still achieves its goal of sowing distrust between Washington and one of its closest Arab partners.
Either way, the claim demands a response. CENTCOM’s confirmation of two American deaths, combined with Pentagon reluctance to release full casualty figures, only deepens the pressure on Washington to account for what happened at Azraq.
